Driving Innovation in Aerospace Testing
Coda Consulting has a proven track record of delivering reliable test automation for aerospace and research facilities. Our expertise in automation, data acquisition, and control system design has made us a trusted partner for leading organizations worldwide.
Icing Spray Systems for Aerospace Facilities
At Coda, we have extensive experience in upgrading and developing next-generation automated spray systems for aerospace icing test facilities, enabling researchers to accurately simulate real-world icing conditions. Our sophisticated electro-mechanical solutions—complete with data acquisition, measurement, and control capabilities—can produce supercooled water droplets in both “cloud-like” forms and freezing rain scenarios. These systems play a critical role in testing and validating how ice forms on aircraft components such as wings, gas turbine engines, drones (UAS,UAV, RPAS...), and sensors, ultimately ensuring safer and more reliable flight operations. Below are examples of related projects we have completed with success.
Coda upgraded three automated icing spray systems for gas turbine test cells. Leading international gas turbine manufacturers use these icing test systems to perform engine icing certification testing and analysis, and develop ice detection and mitigation systems for aircraft and engines.

Coda worked on a complete retrofit of the data acquisition and control system for the NRC altitude icing wind tunnel. This system is used for the evaluation of ice accretion and development, testing and certification of aircraft ice detection and air data probes. Test results from this facility have been accepted by certification authorities such as Transport Canada, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).
One of our latest projects involved designing and building a state-of-the-art icing spray system for a new drone icing test facility for the ACUASI at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF), enabling drone flight testing in simulated real-world icing conditions. This one-of-a-kind facility allows researchers to replicate and study various icing scenarios, improving drone safety and performance in harsh weather conditions. The spray system was designed and calibrated to precisely control droplet size and liquid water content, ensuring highly accurate and repeatable testing conditions.

Wind Tunnel Retrofits and Upgrades

Coda successfully modernized three separate wind tunnel testing facilities with complete data acquisition and control system retrofits.
This effort involved designing and implementing real-time multi-axis motion control systems, as well as developing advanced acquisition, control, and automation software.
The retrofits included a full overhaul of instrumentation racks and cabling infrastructure, enhancing reliability and performance.
Wind Engineering and Environmental Testing
Coda has upgraded the data acquisition systems and software for a leading wind engineering firm’s testing facilities.
The new system significantly improved efficiency, reducing test time and delivering a rapid return on investment for the client.

Hybrid Aircraft
Coda played a key role in designing and commissioning software for a battery charging control system for a hybrid airplane research project, contributing to advancements in sustainable aviation technology.
